The least central of all the Travelodge hotels in York, Travelodge York Hull Road is out on the east side of the city as you head toward the ring road. Not the most exciting building to look at from the outside, this two storey hotel is typical of the Travelodges you tend to find at motorway service stations.
Hotel Location & Facilities
Despite the hotel being some way from the city centre, Grimston Bar Park & Ride is a bit further up the road and so there are frequent buses into the heart of York – there is a stop near to the Travelodge.
The hotel is in a very handy location for the University of York. If you’re visiting for a conference or coming to York to check up on your 18 year old who claims he’s “getting plenty of early nights and spending a lot of time in the library” then the location is great.
Room options are just the standard double and twin rooms – all with functional ensuites. There is no bar or cafe in the hotel so you are limited to a choice between Travelodge breakfast boxes – however, The Black Bull pub is right next door and they serve food all day until 10pm. (The hotel is actually behind the pub if you’re trying to find it from the main road).
Unlike at some of the hotels in the city, parking is available – and it’s free! – however, it’s on a first come first serve basis and you are not definitely guaranteed a spot. That said, there are plenty of residential side streets nearby where you’ll be able to safely leave a car overnight.
Travelodge charge four different rates for the same room. The saver rate is the cheapest – but once you’ve paid you can’t cancel your booking. The flexible rate allows you to cancel up until 12pm on the day of arrival. You can also add 24 hours of WiFi for an extra charge. If you want to drop your bags of early or spend an extra hour in bed in the morning you can pay £10 for early check in or late check out.
