With its curved tower Travelodge York Central is perhaps one of the more interesting budget hotels to look at from the outside. Built on the edge of the River Foss between the end of the city walls and the York Castle complex, Travelodge presumably got planning permission for the hotel due to it’s nod to the medieval past.
Hotel Facilities & Location
Inside you have the standard no-frills Travelodge rooms with king sized beds and basic but functional ensuites. You can’t get a hot breakfast in the hotel itself – only the Travelodge breakfast boxes are available – however, the hotel is above a large Wetherspoons where you can get a full English (and a pint) for well under a tenner.
Although there is a quieter business floor available, given the large pub below, if you’re looking for a quiet hotel where you can get an early night then perhaps Travelodge York Central isn’t the one for you – Travelodge even warn potential guests of some “external noise”. However if you plan to be out making merry until closing time then this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Parking isn’t available at the hotel, however there are three nearby council run car parks: St George’s Field, Castle and Peel Street.
Travelodge offer different prices for the same room. The Early Booking Rate is the cheapest but won’t be refunded if you cancel the room. The Flexible Rate is a bit more expensive but you can cancel your booking up until noon on your arrival date. Rooms on the quieter business floor are a little but more expensive – but not that much more.
You can also add early check-in or late check-out options for an extra £10. Handy if you want to start your sightseeing early or want a few extra hours to recover from the one to many sherries you enjoyed the previous night. 24 hours of WiFi can be added for an extra cost as well.
