Top quality real ale pub located just beyond Walmgate Bar. Rather morbidly, The Rook and Gaskill takes its name from the two sheep rustlers who were the last men to be hanged in St . Leonard’s place in 1776. The pub itself is simple enough, a single room pub with a split level floor, but the choice of beer is excellent. Popular with students and locals alike – and the occasional tourist with pubguide in hand.
