The history of The Fox is intertwined with that of the Holgate Road carriage works – a major part of York’s industrial past. At its peak, the works employed 5000 people across a 45 acre site, many of whom would have found their way to The Fox for a post-shift pint.

The Ossett Brewery has recently sympathetically restored the pub, and old photographs and bits of train now adorn the walls. Multiple rooms, a large beer garden, beautifully restored interior and excellent beer genuinely make this pub one of the best in York.
