Just outside the city centre, Premier Inn York North has rooms for under £40 making it one of the cheapest places to stay in York. Get away from the tourist bustle and enjoy a great night’s sleep without fear of being woken by marauding hen parties.
Hotel Facilities & Location
Set back off the main road behind The Doormouse pub, Premier Inn York North is in a nice quiet residential location. The Doormouse also serves a decent selection of food and is a genuinely nice place to enjoy a beer after a day’s sightseeing. I’m not too sure about the history of the place but the field in front of the pub may well have been an orchard as it’s full of apple trees.
It’s a couple of miles outside of the city centre and walkable in 30 to 40 minutes, however you also have excellent public transport links. Plenty of buses head up and down Shipton Road toward the Park and Ride at Rawcliffe Bar, so you can leave the car for free at the hotel and avoid the hefty parking charges and the fun of finding a space.
Inside the rooms all have the purple Premier Inn look and feel. You get the comfortable bed, the choice of hard and soft pillows and blackout curtains. However a couple of things to note, there is no lift to the second floor, there is no air conditioning and the en suites all have showers rather than baths.
You can get free “unlimited” WiFi anywhere in the hotel – although it’s not technically unlimited if you read the small print. 4G connectivity is pretty good across most of York anyway. Breakfast is served between 6.30 and 10.30am – and you get the choice between a Full English and Continental breakfasts.
To get the best prices on rooms you need to book the Saver as opposed to the Flex rate. However, just be aware that you won’t be able to change your booking or get a refund if your plans change.
