If you’ve got dollars or euros that you need to change into pounds, there are a few different places that offer currency exchange in York city centre.
York’s two city centre Post Offices offer a currency exchange service. The main Post Office can be found on Lendal just a hundred yards or so from the Museum Gardens and there is a smaller Post Office – called Market Place – on Colliergate around the corner from The Shambles.
The big Marks and Spencer department store at the end of Parliament Street also has a currency exchange on its upper floor. Take the main escalators up and then just follow the instore signs.
On Market Street there are two exchanges virtually next to each other. Ramsdens is a pawnbroker with a currency counter at the back and newly opened Eurochange is a dedicated currency exchange
There is also a place on Church Street called York Bureau de Change. This can be found just off of St Sampson Square which is at the top of Parliament St.
If you’re looking to exchange a sizeable amount of money and want to get the best deal possible, York is so small you can spend 15 minutes walking round a few to check the best rates.
If you’re looking to sell currency before you return home the pound is currently trading at around the following:
These aren’t the rates you’ll find in York, but are what these currencies are currently trading at internationally. However, it gives you a rough idea of what you can expect in exchange.
